“One touch of nature makes the whole world kin”
— John Muir
This project aims to restore and enhance biodiversity by planting native trees at the local reservoir recreation area.
It also provides an opportunity for my local community to participate in tree planting activities and promotes the understanding of the connection between nature, wildlife, and human well-being.

Originally planted by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1940s, millions of pine trees across California had been destroyed by the pine bark beetle. Over the last few years, close to 100 deceased pine trees were removed from Lafayette Reservoir recreation area.

To restore the degrading ecosystem and combat the spread of pine bark beetles, I had initiated LeafLegacy project to plant native trees. Three 12 ft-tall Valley Oak trees were strategically planted alongside the trail near the entrance of Lafayette Reservoir Park.

Quercus Lobata is the best choice because of its adaption to the environment. It is drought tolerant, grow quickly, reaching 20 feet in 5 years, and and up to 60 feet in 20 years. Mature specimens may attain an age of up to 600 years.
“I’m very excited to see these native trees planted here, I often need a shady place to take a break and these trees will do just that”
— Anonymous park visitor
